Casa Don Diana: From Camorra Hideout to Museum of Memory
The Story of Don Peppe Diana: A Priest against the Camorra
Don Giuseppe Diana, known as Don Peppe, was born on July 4, 1958, in Casal di Principe. From a young age, he chose to dedicate his life to the community, becoming a priest and working in the parish of San Nicola di Bari. Unlike many, he refused to live in silence and fear imposed by the Camorra. He became a strong and courageous voice against the criminal system that suffocates the territory.
In 1991, he published the manifesto “Per Amore del Mio Popolo,” a document that openly denounces the Camorra and its dominance over Casal di Principe and Campania. In the text, Don Diana writes powerful words that will forever remain etched in the collective memory: “The Camorra is a mountain of shit.” With this manifesto, he urges the community to rebel, not to bend to the power of organized crime, and to choose legality and justice. His commitment makes him a target.

On March 19, 1994, on Saint Joseph’s Day, while preparing to celebrate Mass, Don Peppe Diana is assassinated in the sacristy of his church. This assassination shakes all of Italy and ignites a flame of resistance in the heart of his people.
Casa Don Diana: From the Asset of the Camorra to a Symbol of Redemption
The building that now houses Casa Don Diana was once the property of the boss Egidio Coppola. After its confiscation, the structure was transformed into a center for memory, education, and activism. Today, Casa Don Diana is managed by the Don Peppe Diana Committee and hosts activities aimed at raising awareness about legality, meetings with students, cultural workshops, and social economy projects.
The Role of the Don Peppe Diana Committee
The Don Peppe Diana Committee, established in 2003, is made up of various associations that have chosen not to let the sacrifice of Don Diana be forgotten. The committee organizes events, educational programs, and awareness campaigns each year to combat mafia culture and promote real change in the community.
Collaborations and Redemption Projects
Casa Don Diana works in synergy with Agrorinasce, local associations such as Il Paguro Ostello, and institutional entities to provide training programs for young people and create development opportunities based on legality. The facility also hosts the Fucina per la Formazione Umana (Forge for human education), a project that combines education, innovation, and active citizenship.
The Legacy of Don Peppe Diana
Today, Casa Don Diana is not just a museum of memory, but a vibrant place where the fight for justice continues. The message of Don Peppe Diana still resonates within the walls of this transformed house, inspiring new generations to believe that change is possible.
His battle is not over. It lies in the hands of those who choose not to remain silent. It is in the courage of those who fight every day for a future free from the mafia.
