Roots and Horizons: ESC 2025 at the PAGURO

A New Chapter of Change and Participation

January 2025 marks the beginning of a new adventure for Il Paguro Ostello in Casapesenna. Five young volunteers from Morocco, Turkey, Portugal, Spain, and France have arrived with an ambitious goal: to build bridges, strengthen communities, and leave a lasting impact. Through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program, these young men and women will experience a transformative journey, collaborating with Giovani Senza Frontiere – Giosef Italy to create new opportunities for growth and social inclusion.

A Volunteering Experience that goes beyond Service

Their daily commitment will not only be a practical contribution, but an immersion in a complex reality, full of challenges but also great possibilities. Their mission will lead them to manage and animate the spaces of Paguro Ostello, transforming it into an increasingly welcoming and dynamic center. They will be the beating heart of daily activities, ensuring that the hostel, youth center, and coworking space remain places of meeting, creativity, and collaboration.

But their role doesn’t stop there. Through non-formal education methods, the volunteers will create and lead workshops for the local youth, offering innovative learning paths to develop new skills and strengthen self-confidence. They will be mentors, facilitators, and companions on the journey for the young people of Casapesenna, providing them with practical tools to build their future.

A Community that strengthens, a Story that expands

Their presence will have a tangible impact beyond the walls of the hostel. By collaborating with local organizations and the network of assets seized from organized crime, the volunteers will participate in organizing community events and initiatives, contributing to transforming the area into a laboratory for social change. Through culture, art, and civic engagement, they will help rewrite the narrative of a place that today stands as a symbol of redemption and rebirth.

In addition to fieldwork, they will play a central role in the communication of the project. With their enthusiasm and creativity, they will create engaging digital content, using social media and storytelling strategies to share their experience, inspire other young people, and spread the message of solidarity and active participation.
