The history of NCO: New Organized Kitchen
A Journey from Crime to Social Gastronomy in the Caserta Area
In Casal di Principe, in the heart of the province of Caserta, lies the Nuova Cucina Organizzata (NCO), a social restaurant that serves as a virtuous example of how assets confiscated from organized crime can be transformed into tools for inclusion and development. This project, born from the social cooperative Agropoli and supported by Agrorinasce, has revitalized a property once belonging to the Casalesi clan, turning it into a place of work and hope for the local community.
History of the confiscated asset
The building that now houses the NCO was originally a villa belonging to a prominent member of the Casalesi clan. After its confiscation, the property was entrusted to the social cooperative Agropoli, which embarked on a process of recovery and enhancement with the aim of creating a legal and sustainable economic activity capable of providing job opportunities for disadvantaged individuals.
The Birth of the Nuova Cucina Organizzata
Inaugurated in 2007, the Nuova Cucina Organizzata aims to combine Campanian culinary tradition with social inclusion. The restaurant offers typical dishes made with local products, many of which come from land confiscated from the Camorra and managed by social cooperatives. The NCO employs people with disabilities and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them with professional training and an opportunity for redemption.
Collaborations and Recognitions
The NCO actively collaborates with various local entities, including Il Paguro Ostello, managed by Giosef Italy, creating synergies that have enabled the organization of cultural and gastronomic events, promoting legality and social inclusion. This model of social economy has received national recognition, becoming an example of how the fight against organized crime can also involve the enhancement of local resources and people.
Impact on the community
The presence of the NCO has helped change the perception of the area, demonstrating that it is possible to create legal and sustainable economic opportunities even in challenging contexts. The restaurant has become a symbol of rebirth for Casal di Principe, attracting the attention of media, institutions, and citizens, and representing a tangible hope for a different future.
